Charity and good works should be private efforts; let taxpayers support essential schools, public safety and roads

I need your help in electing a team of commissioners who will support the essential services of government but not waste your money on a large variety of so-called worthy causes. Last year this segment of county spending included nearly $2 million in forced contributions from taxpayers to groups not part of county government. If you wish to donate to a charity, you can do so, but government should not raid your pocket book and redistribute your money to entities which are not part of the county government.
I have always given to my church and to the charities of my choice. Don't tax me and then give my money to others.
I work for my money and I make my own choices of where to give it.
I expect my taxes to pay for teacher's salaries, for roads, for maintaining schools, not to give it away to non-profit groups who are too lazy to raise the money they need for the fancy salaries their executives earn.
I took a look at the FY2010 Budget for Non-County Agency Contributions. The total cost the County Government is shelling out is $1,675,228. I find it ironic that SMARTCO got Zero dollars, while the Watermen's Association got $20,000. SMARTCO is a local organization that re-cycles donated computers and help the needy to acquire, particular students of low income families. The Watermen Association getting of $20,000 looks more like Jackie Russell buying votes from his Watermen buddies. At least the Watermen Association will now have funding for their beer parties. So much for the needy like Center for Children who also also got Zero dollars.
