"It is not the role of government to be Santa Claus," said Jarboe. "I play Santa to my grandchildren, I don't decorate the Christmas Tree with tax dollars like Kenny Dement, Jackie Russell and the two outgoing commissioners, Raley and Mattingly did with the stinky Hayden Farm deal when the held a public hearing on Christmas Eve. The Town Hall Alliance criticism of this deal which paid the Hayden Family twice the appraised value of the farm was supported by Tommy McKay who is now suddenly using arguements presented by my slate as the date of the election draws near. There is only one slate of candidates with an actual platform of holding the line on taxes and fighting back room deals, and I urge you to vote for my slate of the Town Hall Alliance."
St. Mary's Commissioner Larry Jarboe said today that the debate held by the League of Women Voters catered to a primarily liberal Democratic audience and that the group hastily arranged the debate held this past Monday. Jarboe pointed out that the heavy schedules of Town Hall Alliance candidates, which have been working non-stop since last September had conflicts with the Leauge event.
"We have therefore decided to give our opponents a chance to bring their views to the table with our candidates to present them to Republican voters in this primary election. We are asking the Republican Club to hold a debate the week before the primary so Republicans can attend and ask questions of the candidates," said Jarboe. "We have seen many set-up debates over the years with political operatives sending in loaded questions and this year the very active Republican Club will hopefully design a simple format that allows honest questions to be posed to all Republican candidates on a fair basis so Republican voters can decide who best represents their views and values."
